Packing Healthy and FUN Back to School Lunches

We LOVED reading all the great Lunch Box inspo from some of our fabulous @Bradshaws1895 followers on our Instagram feed. Here is a summary of your great ideas to get us going this September AND a recipe for healthy granola bars that will become your new favourite snack to pack in either an adult or kids lunchbox!

Most kids love Granola Bars.
Most parents don’t love the sugary content.
Here is a quick and easy granola bar recipe that even the kids can help you with!

Healthy (yet yummy) Granola Bar recipe

2 cups old fashioned rolled oats

1/4 cup honey

¼ cup maple syrup

1/2 cup unsalted butter

pinch of kosher salt

Pictured above, Abbott Marble Serving Board, Regency Baker's Twine, Abeego Food Wrap, Mason Cash Measuring Cups

That’s the base – feel free to add whatever your preferences are:

mini dark choc chips, cacao nibs, shredded coconut, hemp seeds, chia seeds... you get the picture.

Melt butter

Add oats

Add honey and maple syrup

Mix well

Pinch of salt (or not)

If mixture is too wet – add more oats.

Press FIRM in 9 inch pan

Bake at 350 for 15mins or until golden.

Slice while still warm and let cool. Once cool wrap them in Abeego all-natural wrap! Not sure what Abeego is? Read our Abeego blog about this cool Canadian product!

...and for days or weeks that it’s a struggle just to get everyone dressed and out the door – here are a few lunch hack ideas.

Sirkel Foods Stratford

Takeout - Salad Rolls from Sirkel Foods – order several, keep in fridge and pack in lunches – great for kids or adults - just skip the peanut sauce for most schools!

Edison's famous chocolate banana bread

No time to bake? Grab some wholesome baked goods from Edison’s like this sugar free, gluten free banana bread! Fits perfectly into the Trudeau Fuel Bento Box that everyone is loving right now!

Say no to sugary juice boxes – but yes to The Farm Juice Co. pure juice goodness – available at revel and Edison’s or order direct to your door. Pack cream cheese in a Sistema container and give your littles a cute spreader to put it on themselves so as to avoid sogginess! (is that even a word???)

If you're anything like us, sometimes we feel like we've exhausted our ideas for packing lunches, but thankfully YOU all came to the rescue with these great ideas!

Finger Foods like:

hummus + chips

fruit + veg

build your own pita with the multi-separation containers

mini leftover pancakes or waffles + maple syrup for dipping

homemade trail mix, edamame + pumpkin seeds

muffin tin quiche

bocconcini + tomato + basil skewers with baguette

cheese + dried fruit + fresh fruit + mini croissants

build you own taco

chicken roll up

cucumber + tomato + feta salad

zucchini muffin tops

mini nacho dips

fruit kebabs

And... don't forget a sweet handwritten note. One parent even wraps her kids lunch in wrapping paper if their birthday falls on a school day.
Now that is SPECIAL.

Hope you enjoyed these ideas... Let's make those lunches interesting this year.

Stay tuned for our upcoming post by Sara Bradford of Nourish Real Food who will inspire us adults to pack OUR lunches as well!
