Family Day is a great opportunity to spend time with those you love... We had a BLAST at our first ever Fun for Families Event this past Monday at the Local Community Food Centre. Our event sold out to 100 people in just under 24 hours! We knitted, juiced, created, planted, baked and built with these incredible partners...
Kathy and Roy taught kids corking which is a beginner approach to teaching people how to knit. Kathy made all of her corking spools by hand, and the kids were quickly engaged and quite impressed that in no time at all they were knitting!
Did you know that Close Knit has recently MOVED their location to 106 Wellington Street??? Make sure to pop in to their beautiful new store to see the space and stock up on all your knitting supplies!
Tracey taught the kids how to work with various types of doughs and candies to create their own edible cookie families - including PETS! The kids loved getting their hands dusted with flour and eagerly awaited their cookie family coming out of the oven which they got to take home to enjoy. And Tracey's Mom Vicki was a huge help working with the kids... (AND, Tracey is Alex's Mom, so there were three generations of Pritchard ladies helping at our Family Day Event!)
Did you know that Tracey sells shortcrust pastry, puff pastry and a variety of cookie doughs frozen so you can keep them in your freezer and pop them out when you need them? We're working on stocking her frozen treats at Bradshaws, but until then, you can contact Perfect Pastry directly!
The Farm Juice Co
Alex and her husband Ryan brought their very fancy cold pressed juicer to show the kids how to choose from a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables to create delicious juices. A few kids were trying their hardest to create a "disgusting" flavour that they could feed to their parent... Unfortunately for them, their efforts were foiled. All of the juice combinations were delicious!
Did you know that you can find The Farm Juice Co. cold pressed juices at Revel in downtown Stratford? Cold pressing preserves the enzymes which increases health benefits and makes you feel amazing. Word on the street is that Alex will be offering fresh juice popsicles this summer - a healthy alternative to the store-bought sugary offerings, and really, your kids wouldn't even need to know your secret!
Ryan, Alex's husband, is the owner of Stratford BJJ, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training facility. He demonstrated a few of his moves and instantly had kids who wanted to sign up for his classes!
Gallery Stratford #creationplace
Dawna and Slina from Gallery Stratford had the kids mesmerized with their various art activities! The #creationplace station was busy from the beginning of the morning till the very end, and they were so incredible with all of the kids!
Did you know that Gallery Stratford registration for their summer Arts Alive Program begins March 1st? Mark that date in your calendar and follow Gallery Stratford on Facebook to be the first to get the link!
Jeremy, stage carpentry instructor at Off The Wall, had the kids working on a group project using hammers and nails to create garden decorations that were then left behind as a gift for the Local Community Food Centre. The kids were having a blast sanding wood, hammering nails and painting the finished product to create 3 decorative suns that now live in the Local's greenhouse!
Did you know... Off the Wall has just launched a spiffy new website and registration for the Summer & Fall 2017 Courses is now open, go check it out!
The Little Green Grocery taught kids how to grow veggies from SCRAPS! Yes, that's a thing... Growing celery, garlic, green onions, lettuce and ginger from scraps you would normally throw away proved to be an exciting life lesson, and was a little more fun than waiting for a tiny seed to grow! Heather brought her kids Noah and Felix as her handy Family Day assistants!
And of course our morning event could not get started on the right foot without delicious revelcoffee, delivered by Anne and Dave themselves! They are always so supportive of community projects, and we appreciated their support! Freshly baked cookies were donated from Perfect Pastry, and every last one was eaten!
Having the use of The Local Community Food Centre made this special day EXTRA special... If you have not been to any events in this space, make sure you get involved in some of the incredible community based programming going on there or make a donation to support their projects!
A major THANK YOU to all of the families that attended and to the following people for making this event possible. These incredible Stratford businesses worked together as a TEAM to create this fun, accessible Family Event for you to enjoy!!! Make sure to stay in the loop by following these incredible Stratford businesses on social media!
